We are pleased to announce “Nevertheless, we＿ ” an exhibition of contemporary artists Aira and Sayuri Tsuboyama at tagboat’s gallery space on the 7th floor of Hankyu MEN’S TOKYO, Ginza.

Born in South Korea, Aira was strongly aware of the pressure of a fiercely competitive society. Aira’s works show an outward energy that attempts to make accusations against the world she is in from the “destruction” and “end” through her experiences of the large-scale demonstrations in Hong Kong and coronavirus pandemic, an expression at the opposition to that of Sayuri Tsuboyama.

On the other hand, Sayuri Tsuboyama was born into a family that ran a hospital and grew up in an environment where she was exposed to medical equipment and medicine from an early age, and her work shows a desire to understand the world she lives in through “life” and “nature” and an inward energy like “self-healing.

This two-person exhibition began with an enthusiastic offer from Tsuboyama to Aira.

When Tsuboyama first met Aira at the tagboat art fair held in March 2021, she was intrigued by Aira’s punchy style and mild personality, which contrasted sharply with her artwork. At the same time, he was attracted by the “same smell” of Aira as an artist.
