We are pleased to announce “Curving City,” a solo exhibition of contemporary artist Yuya Saito at tagboat’s gallery space on the 7th floor of Hankyu MEN’S TOKYO, Ginza.
Yuya Saito’s works are characterized by large curved shapes and multi-layered screens.
Starting skateboarding at the age of 14, he projects his dynamic sensibility and the cities he skates through daily onto the theme of “coexistence with natural disasters” in his works.
The chaos and transience of countless people, things, and events that intermingle, occur, and disappear simultaneously is expressed through a combination of traditional woodworking techniques and contemporary printing techniques.
In this solo exhibition, he will present approximately 16 new works, as well as NFT works and collaborations with three artists under the theme of city.
This will be Yuya Saito last exhibition in Japan before moving to the U.S., as he will be relocating his artist activity to New York.
How will he cut through and express the ever-developing cities and the natural disasters that the world is currently facing? Please come and enjoy the unique city that Yuya Saito creates.
PROFILE
サイトウユウヤ / Yuya Saito
Born in Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture, Saito graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, USA.
Saito’s works, characterized by their curved supports and chaotic compositions, reflect the dynamic sensibility of skateboarding, which he began at the age of 14, and his daily awareness of the city he skated through. By combining the traditional “Mageki” technique with the contemporary “Lap Print” technique, the artist presents works that uniquely capture human society.
In addition, as the time spent and consumption in the digital environment of society accelerates, he is trying to grasp how the conventional concept of the street and city in the real world will be updated through the production and distribution of his NFT works.
