Shimizu’s works have a somewhat serious aspect in their cuteness. His works are highly acclaimed for their unique impression of the richly flowing composition.
His works are created by “erasing” rather than “painting.
After painting over the entire surface with paint, he wipes off the paint and erases the surrounding area so that the outline of the overall shape emerges.
He says that this technique, which is like scraping off paint, is an image of digging up memories of the past.
His method of creating works as if he is searching for memories is like a phantom, giving us a sense of nostalgia and comfort.
In his second solo exhibition at tagboat, he will exhibit and sell his long-awaited new works. “form” is recognized because of the existence of blank space. Please come and see the world of “negatives” and “positives” created by Tomohiro Shimizu.
