We are pleased to announce an exhibition of contemporary artist Kotao Tomozawa “Collections” at the newly opened tagboat gallery space in Ningyocho.
Kotao Tomozawa began showing works after entering active enrollment in the Oil-Painting Department of Tokyo University of the Arts.
Currently enrolled in the master’s program of the same university, the artist boasts such outstanding popularity that when she holds a solo exhibition, her works sell out immediately.
Influenced by her mother, Mimiyo Tomozawa, she was exposed to subcultures from an early age and has consistently expressed her inner self with her exceptional descriptive ability.
The artist applies the slime to her face. From an objective point of view, she depicts the physical memories felt by her skin and mucous membranes, such as the scenery she saw with her eyes open and the sensation of her nose is blocked, as well as the slimy texture of the slime.
The painstaking use of oil paints expresses the colors and the tenacity of the brushstrokes. The scene expressed in the paintings is beautiful, with pleasure and pain, relief and anxiety coexisting. Confronted with the work, you can closely experience the artist’s sense of the unusual.
This show will feature works that have become part of collectors’ collections.
We hope you will enjoy viewing these gems of art with an extraordinary appeal.
