tagboat is pleased to present “CHANGE,” a solo exhibition by contemporary artist Kana Arimura.
After graduating from Joshibi University of Art and Design, Kana Arimura has been depicting “maidens” who are neither girls nor women under the theme of “maidens and the world, life and death, and everyday life.
The artist has painted about 1,200 “maidens in rabbit masks” to date, establishing their existence; in 2018, maidens who were depicted as beings of the dream world have evolved into symbols of modern people living in masks, along with the recent spread of social networking sites.
In this solo exhibition, I focus on depicting the “blurring of time” and “blurring of the mind” at the moment of wearing the masks. Unlike the “masked state” he has painted in the past, his new works depicting the new “masked moment” capture the rapidly changing world and express the changes of the living present with various touches.
