Tagboat gallery is pleased to present “BRANCH” a solo exhibition by contemporary artist Hidehiko Iijima.
Hidehiko Iijima, the winner of the Grand Prize at “Independent Tokyo 2022” by tagboat, is a talented artist who combines vulnerability and stuffed animals in his captivating works. Iijima’s art showcases rough and damaged stuffed animals against vibrant and refined backgrounds, creating a delicate balance of charm and fragility. By abstractly concealing the facial expressions of these creatures, Iijima communicates the struggle with our own vulnerabilities and the complexities of various emotions.
In this solo exhibition held as part of the Grand Prize, approximately 20 new works will be exhibited and available for sale. We invite you to experience these enchanting pieces that beautifully convey the nuances of negativity.
PROFILE
Born in Aichi Prefecture in 1999. Graduated from Aichi University of the Arts in 2023, department of Design and Craft Design. I paint stuffed animals that look destroyed and decaying. They have an unsettling yet charming quality. It’s like they resemble the aggression humans develop when desperately hiding their own weaknesses. I ponder these ideas while creating my art.
