We are delighted to announce the opening of the solo exhibition “UNDER VOYAGER” by the illustrator Mika Pikazo at tagboat Gallery.
Mika Pikazo is a popular illustrator known for designing characters for Nintendo RPG games and VTubers. Her vivid use of color and the richness of her characters’ expressions have attracted a wide range of fans both in Japan and abroad. Her solo exhibition “ILY GIRL” held last summer was a great success, attracting approximately 35,000 visitors. This is her fourth solo exhibition and her first as a contemporary artist.
This exhibit will feature a probe traveling between reality and fiction, and a two-dimensional human being who has ignited his own life, and will allow visitors to experience a new development in contemporary art through a wide range of expressive techniques, including illustrations and animations that transcend time and space, and a spatial presentation covered with monotubes.
New original artworks, goods and capsule toys will be on sale at the venue. In addition, visitors will be able to enjoy a rich variety of the exhibition, including an interview introducing the highlights of the solo exhibition and an autograph session.
“No one knows, even I don’t know.
There is something inside of me that no one else knows.
The clue to know who you are
A word someone said to me
A memory of someone looking at me
Shining a light on something that has been hidden deep inside me
Even if I can’t go back
To something I have yet to see
Until my last breath.”
・LAIKA
This exhibition is conceived as an installation in which the entire gallery suggests the spirit and actions of a young girl and tells her story.
Within this gallery, the convergence of ‘universe’ and ‘spirit’ is evoked.
The artworks encapsulate the ambiguity between reality and fiction, depicting intangible elements that reside within the mind.
How people sometimes confront themselves and navigate through their thoughts amidst disjointed emotions,
The exhibition serves as an exploration of encounters and aspirations, reflecting a journey of trial and error.
The actual Voyager spacecraft was launched in 1977,
continues its journey through space, still sending communications back to Earth in 2024.
Inspired by Voyager, this exhibition is infused with many of my favourite elements.
For my first exhibition in an art gallery,
I would like to introduce a new element that has not been explored in my exhibitions before.
Thank you.
