We are pleased to announce “AFTER POP,” a solo exhibition by contemporary artist TARTAROS at tagboat gallery.
TARTAROS has gained popularity overseas for his collage-like banknote paintings and has been active in Hong Kong and Taiwan in recent years. He transforms traditional Japanese art, mythology, and animistic beliefs into 21st-century art.
His latest pieces will feature portraits of two iconic figures: Andy Warhol, who represents American Pop Art, and Elon Musk, the visionary behind innovative projects like Tesla and space exploration. These portraits are created using a unique technique called “Automatic Painting,” which utilizes chance and randomness. The use of artificial materials, such as banknote, adds a mysterious and energetic quality to the images, representing the blend of reality and fantasy in today’s world.
In this second solo exhibition at tagboat, TARTAROS will present a new series of works, including Ukiyo-e banknote paintings, Multiverse Galaxy, Automatic Portrait, and REALCAMO prints.
Please come and see the neo-pop art that reflects the magnificent universe.
PROFILE
TARTAROS started his career as a figure modeler, creating prototypes for domestic figure makers. Later, as a product designer, he had a disc cover registered in the New York MOMA design catalog. A mystical experience during meditation led TARTAROS to become a contemporary artist. Since then, he has produced a series of paintings and prints with spiritual themes. TARTAROS works explore historical civilization and idolatry through mediums such as banknote, idol sculptures, Automatic Paintings, and meditative paintings.
His major curations include “VR Craft – Temple of the Today” and “Post Landscape” which utilize VR technology. The artist lives and works in Okinawa.
