“ﾇﾙ即是色色即是ﾇﾙ”, A solo exhibition by media artist Yoichi Ochiai, will be held at Hankyu Men’s Osaka 3F Contemporary Art Gallery in Umeda, Osaka.

Yoichi Ochiai is a media artist based in Tokyo, whose works are based on the motif of materialization, transformation, and the yearning for mass in the boundary area.

Since starting his career as an artist in 2010, he has been actively engaged in solo and group exhibitions both in Japan and overseas, as well as the publication of photo books.

In this solo exhibition, he will present a new work, “ﾇﾙ即是色色即是ﾇﾙ”.

In addition, some of the artworks using NFT as a material in this exhibition will be sold as a hybrid of online and offline sales. Please come and see the young talents that the world is paying attention to at the exhibition.

■Outline of solo exhibition

In this solo exhibition, the artist will present three series of works, including new works. The artist has been searching for a form of digital reincarnation and homage to the contemporary Mani wheel in the process of converting silver sculptures floating in the air into digital form, photographing them physically and converting them back into digital form again. The exhibition will feature a new work, “ﾇﾙ即是色色即是ﾇﾙ”. In this work, the motif of the emptiness in the Heart Sutra line “Form is emptiness, emptiness is form”, is reinterpreted as digital data of silver sculptures that do not retain tangible form, and the way they reflect various colors and shapes and distort the landscape is composed in a digital hanging scroll.

■Works to be exhibited

“Re-Digitalization of Waves” is a physically photographed work in which mirrored sculptures floating in the air cut out a landscape and rotate to remind us of the reconciliation and modification of the human soul and landscape. Re-Materialization of Waves” dares to set the frame rate to zero and lands on a 2.5-dimensional print with a high degree of mass in the process of works that continue to repeatedly shift between the digital and the material in the “Re-Digitalization of Waves” series. The new work “ﾇﾙ即是色色即是ﾇﾙ” is a reinterpretation of the empty motif of the Heart Sutra as digital data of silver sculptures.

Associate Professor, University of Tsukuba. Visiting Professor at Osaka University of Arts, Kyoto City University of Arts, Kanazawa College of Art and Digital Hollywood University.

Major solo exhibitions include “Ubiquitous existence of Bodies, Interwoven Time and Space (Kusakabe folk crafts Museum, 2022)” and “Transformation of Material Things (Hong Kong, 2021)”.
