“MOSAIC.”, a two-person exhibition by artists Tamaki Kitamura and Shinji Mitsuzuka, will be held at the taboat gallery space on the 7th floor of Hankyu MEN’S TOKYO, Ginza.
Tamaki Kitamura digitally decomposes the object to be painted into colors, and by hand-painting color dots, she creates the illusion of a blurred collection of uneven colors in her paintings.
These expressions question the “human nature” of preconceived notions based solely on the information that flows from the media, and speak to the viewer about what it means to “see”.
On the other hand, Shinji Mitsuzuka’s works reduce the resolution of famous paintings and photographs that exist in reality, creating a mosaic-like representation of the actual work.
Fading memories. Records that are being erased. Mitsuzuka believes that only the desired information of the time is archived.
In response to the art history in which painters in the past developed the technique of pointillism according to various backgrounds, Mitsuzuka produces his works with the question whether “paintings that cannot be understood at first glance” should be supplied in the present age as well.
In addition, he won the Toshiko Prize at the 2022 Taro Okamoto Award for Contemporary Art.
The two artists’ works, which show similarities from the surface of their works, also share the same “social nature” of their artworks. In this exhibition, we will show and sell their new works. Please come and see their answers to the contemporary world we live in today.
